Information We Collect

Account and profile information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Phone number (used for account verification, safety enforcement, and contact exclusion matching; see Phone Verification below)
  • Date of birth or age (your exact age is stored; only your age range — such as 20s or 30s — is shown to other users)
  • Gender (male, female, nonbinary, or other)
  • Spoken language(s)
  • Country (determined from your IP address at the time of each session; VPN use is not permitted)
  • Mature-language preference

Phone verification

When you provide a phone number, we use a third-party service to perform a carrier and line-type lookup to verify that the number is a valid, active mobile number. This check is used solely for account integrity and fraud prevention. We do not use this information for advertising.

Contact exclusion

If you enable the contact exclusion feature, PlanetHello will access your device's contact list to retrieve phone numbers only. Those numbers are compared against potential matches at the moment matching occurs to exclude anyone in your contacts from being matched with you. Phone numbers accessed for this purpose are not uploaded to or stored on PlanetHello's servers and are not used for any other purpose.

Enabling contact exclusion is optional. You may enable or disable it at any time through your device settings (iOS: Settings > Privacy & Security > Contacts; Android: Settings > Apps > PlanetHello > Permissions).

Usage and device information

We collect usage and device information to operate, protect, and improve PlanetHello.

This may include:

  • Date and time you access the app
  • Features you use and actions you take
  • Call category selections
  • Pages or screens visited and time spent using parts of the app
  • Device type, operating system, and device settings
  • IP address and inferred country
  • App performance and diagnostic information (via Firebase)
  • Advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS, Google Advertising ID on Android), device information, and ad interaction data (via Google AdMob)
  • IP address and call session operational data (via Agora)

Call metadata

PlanetHello collects call metadata — including duration, timestamps, category, and participant account identifiers — for safety review and enforcement purposes. PlanetHello does not record calls or create transcripts of calls.

Call Privacy and Encryption

Calls are encrypted in transit using AES-256 and TLS 1.2/1.3. Calls are facilitated in real time and are not end-to-end encrypted. PlanetHello does not record calls or create transcripts.

Reports submitted after a call may be connected to the relevant call metadata to support safety review and enforcement.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage accounts
  • Verify phone numbers at signup for account integrity and fraud prevention
  • Match you with other users based on your selected filters (category, age range, gender, language, country, content preference)
  • Run the contact exclusion filter at match time (phone numbers are not stored; see Contact Exclusion above)
  • Operate PlanetHello and provide app functionality
  • Provide customer support and communicate with you about the app
  • Send service-related notices, such as account, safety, privacy, or policy updates
  • Maintain safety and enforce our Terms of Use, Community Guidelines, and policies
  • Serve in-app advertisements through Google AdMob
  • Improve the user experience and monitor app performance
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests, including mandatory reporting to NCMEC

Third-Party Services

We use third-party services to help provide, operate, protect, analyze, and improve PlanetHello:

  • Firebase (Google): account authentication, analytics, and crash reporting. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Agora: real-time audio infrastructure. Agora processes call session data and IP addresses to deliver calls.
  • Google AdMob: in-app advertising. AdMob collects advertising identifiers, device information, and ad interaction data to serve interest-based advertisements. See Advertising and Do Not Sell sections below.
  • Carrier and line-type lookup provider: used at signup to verify that a phone number is a valid, active mobile number for account integrity purposes.
  • Apple App Store and Google Play: app distribution.

Third-party services may collect or process information according to their own privacy policies and terms.

Advertising

We use Google AdMob to display advertisements. AdMob may use advertising identifiers and app usage data to serve interest-based advertisements.

On iOS, PlanetHello will request your permission before allowing AdMob to access your IDFA. You may change this at any time in your device Settings.

To opt out of interest-based advertising:

  • iOS: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking > disable PlanetHello
  • Android: Settings > Google > Ads > Delete advertising ID
  • Google Ad Settings: adssettings.google.com

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

We do not sell your personal information for money.

We share certain information with Google AdMob for interest-based advertising. Under California law (CCPA/CPRA), this may constitute sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

California residents have the right to opt out of this sharing. To opt out, use the device settings above or email support@planethello.com with the subject line "CCPA Opt-Out."

We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We and our service providers may use cookies, advertising identifiers, and similar technologies to recognize your device, understand app usage, maintain security, measure performance, and serve and measure advertisements through AdMob.

We may use these technologies to:

  • Recognize your device when you return
  • Remember preferences and settings
  • Understand how you interact with the app or website
  • Operate and improve the service
  • Support analytics, security, and advertising where applicable

You can control cookies through your browser or device settings. If you reject cookies, some features or areas may not work properly.

Marketing

We may use your contact information to send promotional communications about PlanetHello, but only where permitted by law.

You may opt out of promotional communications by following the instructions in the communication or by emailing support@planethello.com.

We may still send non-promotional messages, such as account, safety, privacy, policy, or service-related notices.

How We Protect Information

We use SSL/TLS encryption, Firebase App Check, AES-256 call encryption, and administrative access controls to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell personal information. We may share information:

  • With service providers operating under data processing agreements (including Firebase, Agora, AdMob, our carrier lookup provider, hosting, and analytics providers)
  • With Google AdMob for advertising as described above
  • To comply with law, court order, subpoena, or government request
  • To protect the safety, rights, or property of users, PlanetHello, or others
  • To investigate or prevent fraud, abuse, or policy violations
  • To the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) as required by law for child safety matters
  • To law enforcement as required under FOSTA-SESTA for trafficking violations
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets

Reports and Moderation

Reports help us maintain safety and enforce PlanetHello's rules. Reports are connected to the relevant call metadata and reviewed by our moderation team. Your identity as the reporting user is never shared with the reported user.

A reported account may be required to verify a phone number before continuing to use the platform. Serious violations may result in account restrictions, temporary suspensions, or permanent bans.

Data Retention

We retain personal information as follows:

  • Account data (email, phone, age, gender, language, country): retained until account deletion plus 30 days, or longer if required by legal hold or enforcement
  • Contact exclusion phone numbers: not stored — accessed on-device and compared at match time only; never uploaded to PlanetHello's servers
  • Call metadata (duration, timestamps, category): 90 days
  • Safety reports and enforcement records: 3 years
  • Banned account information: retained while the ban is in effect and for as long as reasonably necessary to enforce the ban, review appeals, and prevent re-registration
  • Usage and analytics data: 13 months; anonymized data may be retained longer
  • Legal hold data: as required by applicable law or court order

If your account is banned or suspended, we retain the associated account information for as long as reasonably necessary to enforce the ban, review appeals, and prevent re-registration.

You may request deletion of your account and personal information by emailing support@planethello.com or submitting a request through our [Privacy Request Form] at [planethello.com/privacy-request]. Some information may be retained where required or permitted by law, including for safety, security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution, or enforcement purposes.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights with respect to your personal information.

These may include the right to:

  • Request access to personal information we have collected about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Request restriction of processing
  • Object to certain processing of your personal information
  • Request a copy of your personal information in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format

We will acknowledge your request within 10 business days and respond substantively within 45 calendar days, extendable by an additional 45 days with notice.

Children

PlanetHello is for adults only. You must be 18 or older to use the platform.

If you believe someone on PlanetHello is under 18, report the account immediately after the call.

When warranted, PlanetHello will report child safety concerns to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

Data Breach Notification

If a data breach occurs that requires notification under applicable law, we will notify affected users within the timeframes required by applicable state breach notification statutes.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as PlanetHello changes. For material changes, we will provide at least 30 days' advance notice by email or in-app notification where reasonably practicable.

Your continued use of PlanetHello after changes become effective means you accept the updated Policy.
